Our lives should be growing, no matter how old or young we are. If we’re breathing there is a purpose for our lives. It doesn’t mean the stages don’t change, it just means God still has a plan for us. I get so amused at how “men” define acceptance, approval, and success. Just so we all know; it’s usually a man-made definition.
As pastors, leaders, speakers, and communicators go, they should be improving everyday! Why is it guys go to seminary or one communication class and think they have it mastered? I know people who speak and give talks who have never understood nor cared to understand all the senses of communication. Most speakers rarely touch but one of the senses: Hearing. We hear criticisms of speakers using props and critics talk about how they are just being “cool” etc. Well, that holds no weight in my book. When you see creativity on a platform, it is simply communicating to more than one sense. For instance: I remember a time that Ed Young set out a cantaloupe on stage and did not mention it for several talks. Finally, he cut it open, and threw seeds all over the auditorium……brilliant! He just appealed to every sense a person has; sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. They left that building remembering what he said.
My recommendation: If you speak for a living or calling, study the art of communication! Never stop! It’s amazing stuff!
