I sat in a meeting this week listening to top shelf Christian businessmen explain the fact that we are under utilizing our lay leaders in our churches. Here are guys who own companies, move large dollars around the world who have extreme gifts, extreme abilities, extreme leadership skills, and we ask them to take care of “cutting the church grass”………….I’ve been guilty! No doubt, it’s ALL important in creating an attractive environment on Sundays, but the point is, we are not tapping into the gifts leaders often have. What if we said, “I would like to ask you to consider leveraging your relationships and begin to share our vision of changing the world from right where we are, by building a constituency of 6 key business leaders in our city, to raise up $4M to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in 4 different countries by planting 14 churches by the end of next December.” Listen to me; the superman telephone booth plague would hit a guy like this!!! Just sayin’!
